I married Todd Gallicano on Aug. 9 at The Old Church in Portland, which is where we met and where he proposed. It was a 40s-themed wedding.
Our ceremony music was primarily from the romantic ballet genre, and I wrote a poem to Todd on the side of the cake. I also surprised Todd with our aisle runner, which my mom sewed. I had it embroidered with our names and the date, and we plan to pass it on to our future generations for them to add their names and dates.
The program was titled “The Big Romance” and featured photos of us dressed in 40s outfits at the Pittock Mansion. It included a story written in the style of a 40s detective novel, ala “The Big Sleep.”
Todd also surprised me by creating a newsreel video for the reception from spliced together excerpts of news stories from the 40s. Johnny Martin and his 40s band played at our reception, and they even learned a new piece just for us: “It’s Love, Love, Love” by Kay Kyser, which is one of our favorite songs.
We celebrated our honeymoon in Kauai, the garden island. We saw many waterfalls during a helicopter tour of the island. We also saw the Napoli Coast from a catamaran boat and went snorkeling. The ATV tour was great fun too. We attended a luau and saw “South Pacific,” the musical.
